A sonic letter to my younger sister.
Dear Z.
SPEAKER_00Who is your favorite younger? Who is your favorite closest to closest sist who's your favorite sister who's close to you? In age. Who's closest to you in age of your sisters?
SPEAKER_01Mey. I'm so lucky to have you as my little sister.
SPEAKER_03One, two, three, four. Actually? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And to get to watch you grow up into the amazing, hilarious, and full of life 11-year-old you're becoming.
SPEAKER_00Why don't you want to hear why you're beautiful?
SPEAKER_01Because it makes me uncomfortable. I can see the pain that you're carrying.
SPEAKER_00When you compare yourself to your friends at school, that's how you feel, kind of.
SPEAKER_03I want the same hair as them.
SPEAKER_01Here are a few things that I want to say. Dear Z. I know right now your older brother annoys you like crazy. I remember that from my childhood too.
unknownYeah, stop.
SPEAKER_01But I would do anything to jump back into those days where we were both just kids and he wouldn't stop touching my elbow. Dear Z, he loves you more than you can ever know.
SPEAKER_03I would flee. Why? Oh. I or two? I'll flee. One.
SPEAKER_01Two? One. Okay. Dear Z, you will love and lose and love. Dear Z lose and lose. Well, the things you do matter. The things you think matter just as much. Tell yourself you're awesome because you are. Tell yourself all the kind of things you can possibly think of. Dear Z. I'm glad you're exploring who you like once eventually. But you will actually believe it. Never let a grimy fifth grader consume you and your thoughts more than your surroundings do. Life is grand. Be open to its beauty.
SPEAKER_02And draw in a house.
SPEAKER_03No, I already live in a house.
SPEAKER_01Dear Z, just have fun. You are the silliest person I know. Embrace it, baby. Dear Z. Life is scary. I get it. You will always have fears. They will creep into your body and keep tickling your armpits when you least want to be tickled. While your fears these days may be centered around jellyfish and bug bites and getting your period one day. Your fears will likely change. The way it feels to fear something may never get lighter. Fears are inevitable. We all have them. Even me and Dad and Taylor Swift. But you can't let fear engulf you. You will have to and should do epic hard things, even when they scare the shit out of you.
SPEAKER_03Three, two, one.
SPEAKER_01Wow. Even after facing your fears a hundred million quatrillion times, the a hundred million quatrillion and first time will still offer its own beginning and anxieties. But in doing it anyways, you will realize that you can actually do it. And plus, you'll have more stories to tell. Dear Z, your body is not something to hide. It's not something to disrespect when the system makes you feel out of place. When the clothes don't fit anymore, and you look yourself in the mirror and don't like what you see, just know that I've been there too. I'm on the other end of it though. I didn't get there by losing 30 pounds because when I did, it didn't fix anything other than attracting superficial people and empty compliments. I got there by surrounding myself with people who love their bodies. So much so that they dance as if they are one.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_01Dear Z.
SPEAKER_00What do you think the most important thing is in your life right now?
SPEAKER_03I just want to dance.
SPEAKER_00Dancing. I love you.
