One more day. Unbelievable that we're almost to the finish line. See ya tomorrow!!!

Let me know what you think of this episode.

SPEAKER_11

Okay. Day twenty-nine.

SPEAKER_08

Free tea.

SPEAKER_01

Take it up and spent a food.

SPEAKER_07

Thirty days of free tea in Mary Hernandez Park.

SPEAKER_11

Hello, hello.

SPEAKER_07

Day twenty-nine.

SPEAKER_11

Day twenty-nine.

SPEAKER_07

I don't believe it. I don't believe it's almost over.

SPEAKER_11

Why do public parks matter?

SPEAKER_07

Well, living in a city, you need green. It's a place for for kids to play. And for adults to play. And for dogs. Volleyball.

SPEAKER_06

When they wall up Barbecue.

SPEAKER_07

Skateboarding. Biking. Scooters. Speakers on scooters.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, go ahead with that.

SPEAKER_07

Music.

SPEAKER_03

You'd yell and he'd cry and he'd fuss and he'd fight. You'd keep the bandmates up all night.

SPEAKER_07

Guitars. None of those things can happen without the park, you know. Like you can try to find a street to do one of those things on, or some of those things here and there, but like it can all happen here. It's all meant to happen here. Because it's space. It's literally just open space, which is the hardest thing to come by in New York City. So when you create an open space that everyone has access to and can do whatever they want there, all sorts of amazing things happen.

SPEAKER_11

What's happening over here?

SPEAKER_07

The Ethan Anthony lookalike contact.

SPEAKER_11

Who's Ethan Anthony? My roommate.

SPEAKER_04

That guy.

SPEAKER_11

Hey, can I listen into this deliberation over here?

SPEAKER_04

Tell me what you're thinking. I'm leaning closer to Max. I think Max had a more Ethan energy. I felt more aware of Ethan. And I think that carries a bit more, even if the answer wasn't as strong.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Dakota's known Ethan longer than I have, so I've got to be a good one.

SPEAKER_11

Have you found some joy in the in Maria Hernandez?

SPEAKER_10

No, I haven't found joy in Maria Hernandez. Yes, all in my life. I'm yanking your chain. Of course. Yes.

SPEAKER_09

It is the best gathering space for people of all ages to get loose and get to know each other and have fun. Um this is the best day of my life. I have never felt more achieved than I have in this moment. And I don't think I'll ever pop this. Like, can you do that in the street? No, I don't think so. There's so many different jungle gems for us to play with.

SPEAKER_05

There's peace and there's chaos.

SPEAKER_11

Okay, there's someone doing a wheelie as we're doing. There's somebody doing a wheelie right now.

SPEAKER_05

There's always something new. It still holds that that same old school kind of feel to it in a sense. One day you see Miles serving tea, but then the other day you might see somebody rolling in a dirt naked. Who knows? You never know.

SPEAKER_06

I mean the park is parking. Look, you see little kids over there playing ball. Those prisons over there across the paths. Look, you see? Yeah. The usual workout bros over there doing their thing. And then just people on the park, but just commuting. That's your brother.

SPEAKER_08

Relaxing. Hey, what she cooked or whatever. Well when I came, when I first came back here and she was cooking, I was like, she can't cook. This shit is nasty. We're in this park. That's why I started cooking. You can truly see every kind of person.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it's like this guy who's rolling with an American flag. Yeah, and a Puerto Rican flag. That's awesome. We just saw two birds in a cage sitting on a bench. And I think that's really unethical, but it's really unethical, but the birds are really cute.

SPEAKER_07

This park is amazing because of the humans. Like it's you could just put a giant field and amazing things would happen.

SPEAKER_08

You're an asshole. He's trying to mate with her because she's a male. She's a female.

SPEAKER_07

We're entering a different mode of being when we're in the park. And that that is gonna clap just a beautiful way to be.

unknown

I know about pigeons.

SPEAKER_07

It's like we're reminding ourselves how to be human and how to be kids and break from the rhythms of the of the day-to-day.

SPEAKER_11

I normally I normally like chasing them. Chasing the airplanes? Yeah, and try to catch them.

SPEAKER_00

It would have been a little too much putting a Stan Lee to him.

SPEAKER_09

It's a moment to take a step and look at the trees, to be together to play, to play basketball.

SPEAKER_00

Get it right there, get it right there!

SPEAKER_01

Born and raised New Yorker, the parks have always been a place where New Yorkers could go. I like playing pickup basketball, and this is a good place to meet people to know the neighborhood. I never feel out of place playing pickup with strangers. Like you just build a camaraderie. Especially now where like neighborhoods are starting to change. People need to know each other. And parks are a perfect place to do that, to have their kids play together, to just know each other's names.

SPEAKER_02

This park was named after an activist. She was trying to put an end to the drug epidemic that was going on in this neighborhood. And um, she ended up getting shot and killed by dealers, and that's why they named the park after her. I mean, I think it's really beautiful that there is a park named after someone trying to put effort towards creating a brighter future for the youth, you know.

SPEAKER_04

You want some tea? Yeah. What would you like?

SPEAKER_11

What do you think about your young neighbors serving the tea over here?

SPEAKER_07

It's already been like really amazing because like other high schoolers came and they were like, oh, what school do you guys go to? And they're so good at it. Like they're really thoughtful. I like talking to people and like learning about them, and like where do you come from and like the stories?

SPEAKER_10

It's 6 o'clock!

SPEAKER_00

Day 29! Day 29.

SPEAKER_11

Okay, tomorrow. Tell me, what's happening?

SPEAKER_07

Dawn of dusk. Free tea from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Everyone is serving the tea. You're serving the tea. I'm serving the tea. JW is serving the tea.
